14,000 Cases Resolved in One-Day Lok Adalat Blitz, Chandigarh

Under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority and able guidance of the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sheel Nagu, the Chief Justice-cum-Patron-in-Chief, State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Sibal, Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh, the National Lok Adalat was organized today i.e. 13.09.2025 in District Court Complex, Sector-43, Chandigarh by State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh and District Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh.

Thirteen benches headed by the serving Judicial Officers were constituted in the District Courts, Sector-43, Chandigarh. Criminal Compoundable cases, cases under Section 138 of N.I.Act, Bank Recovery cases, MACT Cases, Matrimonial Disputes, Labour Disputes, Arbitration matters, other Civil Cases, Municipal Matters and Traffic Challans were taken up and disposed off with the consent of the parties.

In today’s National Lok Adalat total 14000 were disposed of by the benches of serving Judicial Officers constituted in New District Courts Complex, Sector 43, Chandigarh which include 11889 traffic challans involving amount of Rs.78,58,000/-, 241 Criminal Compoundable cases involving amount of Rs. 1,25,22,441/-, 1397 cases under Section 138 of N.I. Act involving amount of Rs.1,58,35,709/-, 03 Bank recovery involving amount of Rs.2,80,522/-, 60 Motor Accident Claim cases involving amount of Rs.7,14,60,000/-, 40 Matrimonial/Family Disputes involving amount of Rs.2,05,000/-, 115 Civil Suits and Rent Cases involving amount of Rs.37,65,081/-, 26 Executions involving amount of Rs.51,62,535/-, 23 Civil Misc., 2 Criminal Revision involving amount of Rs.89,55,740/-, 09 Criminal Misc., 5 Arbitration cases, 05 Civil/Rent Appeal, 18 cases of 125 Cr.P.C. involving amount of Rs. 50,000/-, 13 cases of D.V. Act involving amount of Rs.75,000/-, 27 Untrace cases, 22 Criminal Appeals involving amount of Rs.1,62,533/-, 79 cases of ROC/Shop Act involving amount of Rs.3,61,900/-, 08 Guardian cases and 01 case of water bill decided by Permanent Lok Adalat (PUS) were disposed of.

In addition to above, 2295 pre-litigative cases involving amount of Rs. 2,66,787/- were disposed of by the Permanent Lok Adalat (PUS), 11 (pre-litigation) bank recovery cases (taken up by regular bench) involving amount of Rs.3,32,000/-, 17 Labour Dispute Cases involving amount of Rs.2,20,000/- were disposed of by the Labour Court, 64 were disposed of by State & District Consumer Commissions, Chandigarh involving amount of Rs.3,51,57,436/-, 208 cases were disposed of by DRT-II, Chandigarh involving amount of Rs.94,18,69,574/- and total 57 mutations have been disposed of by Tehsildar (Revenue), U.T., Chandigarh.

In a matrimonial dispute husband-wife came before the Ld. Court of  Puneet Mohan Sharma, Additional District & Sessions Judge, U.T., Chandigarh. Due to some matrimonail issues between the parties, they started to live seprately for the last ten years. Thereafter, wife filed divorce petition in the court on 31.07.2023. Said matter was taken up by Ld. Court in National Lok Adalat and with the intervenion of the Court as well as Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Sibal, Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, UT, Chandigarh and H.S.Grewal, Ld. District & Sessions Judge, Chandigarh, dispute between the parties was amicably settled and both parties were united again. In other divorce petitions, parties were reconciled during the Lok Adalat by the Ld. Family Court and parties have started living together and have affirmed the factum of reunion.

One another case has been taken up in the Court of Rahul Garg, CJSD/GJ , pertaining to the matrimonial dispute which also involves the dispute regarding the custody of minor child of 8 years old. The said matrimonial dispute has been settled with the efforts of Learned Presiding officer and Ho’nble Members of the bench. The matter was runing between the parties from last more than five years. It was asked by the Ld. Presiding officer and Members that the interest of the minor child is utmost priority.The permanent custody of the minor child was handed over to mother, with weekend custody to the father for two days on each 2nd and 4th weekend.

Today’s National Lok Adalat was conducted under the able guidance of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Deepak Sibal, Executive Chairperson, State Legal Services Authority, UT, Chandigarh. Originating from Gandhian Principles, Lok Adalat has become a major helping hand to courts and has largely succeeded in providing a supplementary forum to litigants for determination and settlement of disputes.
