15th Meeting of District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, UT Chandigarh

The Voice of Chandigarh News: The 15th meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) was held under the Chairmanship of Nishant Kumar Yadav, Deputy Commissioner, UT Chandigarh at Chandigarh Police Headquarters, Sector-9, to discuss and update the status of various road safety related issues.

The meeting was attended by SSP/Traffic & Security alongwith representatives of the UT Engineering Department, Municipal Corporation/Chandigarh, Architect Department, Urban Town Planning Department/UT, Transport Department, Health Department, Harman Singh Sidhu, ArriveSafe NGO and all Deputy Superintendents of Police/Traffic, among others.

Inspector Eram Rizvi, Traffic Admn., presented the agenda items before the Committee. The Committee reviewed the actions taken on the agenda points from the previous meeting, which included several key updates. These updates involved provision of Pick and Drop Points for Auto Rickshaws on slow carriageways adjoining Madhya Marg, physical segregation of cycle tracks marked on main carriageway roads i.e. from Transport Light Point to Tribune Chowk alongside the Mango Garden on both sides on Purv Marg, Back-up of Automatic Traffic Control Signal Lights (ATC) at all traffic junctions, installation of ATC Signal at intersection near Khuda Lahora Bridge on Madhya Marg, yellow road marking in the middle of the road on Vigyan Path alongwith required road signage to avoid overtaking and provision of medians on sectors V-5 roads entry/exit from V-4 road for the safety of the road users, provision of timer for cyclists/pedestrian signal lights and signal of U-turn at all the traffic signal lights, marking of stop lines and zebra pedestrian crossings at ITMS traffic signal locations and pruning of trees at these signals throughout the city.

In addition to these updates, fresh agenda items were also discussed including installation of pedestrian crosswalk animation displays for the safety of the pedestrians, the repair or replacement of non-functional CCTV cameras across the city, and the re-carpeting of the dividing road between Sector 44 and Sector 45.

On the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, Nishant Yadav, an official email id (drsc.chd@gmail.com) shall be used where the general public can submit feedback/suggestions/grievances solely related to road safety issues in the city. Citizens can send email on regarding any issue regarding road safety including damaged roads, faulty traffic lights, service lane, etc. All such issues shall be taken up in the monthly meeting of DRSC and resolved accordingly. He also directed the concerned officials to complete the ibid works related to road safety in stipulated time period on priority basis for the safety of the road users.
