Fiji to Reopen to International Travellers in December
Travel restrictions are lifted, however, entry requirements remain in place
THE VOICE OF CHANDIGARH | TRAVEL TRADE REPORTER:
The picturesque paradise of Fiji, known for its incredible scenery and warm, welcoming people commemorated Fiji Day and 51 years of the island nation’s independence on the 10th October 2021. On this monumental day, the country prime minister Frank Bainimarama has announced that after nearly two years of being closed, its borders will once again be opened to international visitors from December 1, 2021.
This official announcement, which can be found here, comes off the heels of Fiji reaching its goal to get 80% of its eligible population vaccinated with both doses. While travel restrictions will be lifted in December, travellers from India keen to visit Fiji shores may need to wait a little longer due to the continued travel restrictions in place between the two countries.
Travellers to Fiji must be fully vaccinated (children under 18 can travel with a vaccinated adult) from a “Travel Partner” country (defined as one with high vaccination rates and low-test positivity rates), as well as providing a negative PCR test taken 72-hours prior to departure. Once they arrive on Fiji’s shores, these travellers can holiday in designated travel-safe areas, where they can enjoy the best of Fiji knowing that everyone they interact with will be fully vaccinated. “It’s been almost two years since we welcomed international visitors. And in these two years, we’ve struggled, we’ve adapted and we’ve prepared. Today, our national airline is ready, our hotels and tour providers are ready, and Fijians are ready to safely welcome the world back. We are ready to let happiness find you again.” Minister for Tourism, Hon. Faiyaz Koya.
“We are ecstatic that Fiji will open its borders to international visitors before the end of the year,” says Tourism Fiji’s CEO Brent Hill. “This is the moment we have been planning for nearly two years now and I can assure the world that Fiji is safe and ready to welcome you back. The islands are just as beautiful – if not more beautiful – than ever and the locals just as warm and friendly. Fiji is the vacation the world needs and deserves right now, and we can finally offer that again from December.”
Travellers and advisors can book in confidence with the Care Fiji Commitment, where travellers can stay in certified resorts, use certified transportation and experiences, and be assured that all tourism businesses they come in contact with have a 100% vaccinated staff. The Care Fiji Commitment is a World Health Organization-approved program that has been recognized by the World Travel and Tourism Council who declared Fiji as a certified “Safe Travels” destination. Travellers can fly to Fiji safely with Fiji Airways, who have been awarded the Apex Diamond certification for safety and the Skytrax 5star COVID-19 Airline safety rating.
The country’s reopening will be well-timed to the launch of Tourism Fiji’s new Matai program for Fiji specialists, expected to debut by the end of the year. For more information on Fiji ‘s Matai Program, please visit www.matai.fiji.travel.
