Community Parking, a smart parking solution for the city- UT Adviser Dharam Pal
The Voice of Chandigarh News:
Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator chaired a meeting to discuss the implementation of Parking policy in the city.
The City Beautiful has high car density ownership which leads to congestion on the city roads. The residents seem to face grave parking problems within residential, commercial and institutional areas. Keeping these factors into consideration, the Chandigarh Administration notified a parking policy in the year 2020.
The aim of this policy was to reduce & resolve the chaotic parking situation in the city. The policy focusses on strict enforcement to prevent misuse of limited resources, reclaim the right of way of pedestrians and restrict parking of vehicles on invaluable greens of the city.
The Administration intended to have a dynamic parking policy which constantly change with the ever-increasing number of vehicles.
The Adviser directed the officials to explore the apt ways to implement this policy on ground. A dedicated team of professionals will begin this process from sectors like sector 35,22,15 to understand the obstructions faced during the on ground implementation in these congested areas.
The forum discussed at length the feasibility of community parking. It was found that this initiative could prevent the parking chaos in the city. The large spaces of the schools, institutions etc can be utilised in the non working hours to accommodate more vehicles at one place.
Dharam Pal asked the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation to create the RFP for digitising the congested parking places.
After digitising and implementing smart parking solutions, people will easily find a vacant spot to park their cars, book slots, and pay digitally instead of waiting in long queues to pay in cash.
The Adviser shared that with burgeoning number of cars and lack of parking, we shall prioritise on implementing smart parking solutions for the residents of the City Beautiful. The factories, industries, institutes should have adequate parking space to accommodate the cars of their staff, he added.
Nitin Kumar Yadav, Home Secretary, Anindita Mitra, Commissioner Municipal Corporation, Yash Pal Garg, CEO Chandigarh Housing Board, Manisha Chaudhary, SSP ( Traffic) and other officers of Chandigarh Administration attended the meeting.
