DOCTOR’S DAY: INDIAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION AND ROTARY CLUB CENTRAL CHANDIGARH CHAPTER CELEBRATED NATIONAL DOCTOR’S DAY

Rotary Club Chandigarh Central and IMA organised a Felicitation Ceremony on on National Doctor’s Day in which Governor Punjab and Administrator Chandigarh Sh. Banwari Lal Purohit was the Chief Guest. He handed over lifetime achievement awards to three stalwarts who dedicated their lives in the service of humanity.

Lifetime achievement awards were awarded to
1. Prof BNS Walia: Former Director PGI, a pioneer in setting up the department of pediatric in PGI
2. Prof Jagat Ram Former Director PGI, who was at forefront during our War with Covid in North India.
3. Dr Gurdeep Kaur
Former Head of Gynae Department at GMCH 16.

In addition, twenty other doctors from PGI, GMCH & Private sectors participated, who made immense contributions in their own field to make their patients disease free, said Dr Gurvinder Singh President IMA.
Further, Dr Gurvinder thanked the Adviser UT Chandigarh for allowing charitable activities in IMA complex. Though a final order is still awaited. He also conveyed the concern of doctors about the decreasing health facilities in private sector and urged the governor to allow nursing homes in the neighborhood for a large population of elderly people.

Sunil Kansal President Rotary Club Chandigarh central highlighted the role of doctors in the society, especially the Indian doctors who are famous throughout the world for their dedication and skill.

He further added that NGOs like Rotary play an important role in the community. Rotary club Chandigarh Central has numerous projects, including charitable vaccination centre in GMCH, and dispensary in village Kishangarh. They provided artificial hands to more than 2000 people without hands.

Dr. R S Bedi, nominated councilor, while congratulating the governor on taking pathbreaking steps for garbage disposal, metro, and clean energy initiative. He urged him to heed to the request of IMA, and RWAs to improve the dwindling private health facilities in Chandigarh for it’s residents.

More than 250 doctors, Rotarians and Executive members of CRAWFED and FOSWAC participated in the glittering ceremony on National doctors day in IMA Complex.
