MCC organizes Swachh Samman Samaroh to mark ‘Swachh Bharat Divas’ and ‘Gandhi Jayanti’

To express gratitude and honor Safaimitras and their families, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh organised ‘Swachh Bharat Divas’ and ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ at Rani Laxmi Bai Mahila Bhawan, Sector 38, for their unwavering dedication and tireless efforts to keep the city Swachh.
Banwarilal Purohit, Governor, Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest during the auspicious occasion. He honoured the Safaimitras and their families for their selfless service in the presence of Anup Gupta, Mayor, Dharampal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Nitin Kumar Yadav, IAS, Secretary, Local Body, Vijay Namdeo Rao Jade, IAS, Finance Secretary, Anindita Mitra, IAS, Municipal Commissioner, Kanwarjeet Singh Rana, Senior Deputy Mayor, councilors and officers of MCC and Safaimitras alongwith their families.
Emphasising the invaluable contribution of Safaimitras in keeping the city clean and extending heartfelt gratitude for their selfless service, the Governor appreciated the honesty of the Safaimitras and said that these inspiring individuals and their families have played a pivotal role in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the city beautiful.
He said that Swachhanjali, a day dedicated to recognizing the commitment of Safaimitras towards a cleaner and #GarbageFreeIndia, showcased the remarkable achievements and contributions of these individuals. Their hard work, perseverance, and unwavering dedication serve as an inspiration to everyone, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in achieving a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future.
He said that he was deeply honored to be a part of this Swachh Samman Samaroh event and to have the opportunity to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of Safaimitras. Their dedication and hard work in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the city is truly inspiring. He said that today, we come together to express our gratitude and extend our support to their families. He exhorted everyone to join hands in creating a cleaner and more sustainable future for Chandigarh, he said.
In a heartwarming gesture, the Governor condoled the demise of a municipal worker and handed over an insurance cheque amounting to Rs. 2.5 lacs , insured through Punjab & Sind Bank to the family of a deceased municipal worker. He also handed over certificates of different welfare schemes of Government of India i.e. Aayushman Card, Atal Pension Yojna, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojna (PMJJBY) etc to beneficiaries from the sanitation employees. This gesture acknowledged the sacrifice and dedication of these individuals and aims to provide support to their families during difficult times.
While addressing the safaimitras, city Mayor Anup Gupta expressed his gratitude towards the Safaimitras and their families, saying, “The dedication and hard work of Safaimitras is truly commendable. They have been instrumental in keeping our city clean and ensuring a healthier environment for all. Today, we honor their service and stand in solidarity with their families.
In her welcome address, the Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra said that the Swachh Samman Samaroh is a testament to the extraordinary efforts of Safaimitras. Their commitment to cleanliness and sanitation inspires us all. It is an honor to celebrate their achievements and express our deepest condolences to the families of deceased Safaimitras. We hope that the insurance cheques provided today will provide some solace during this difficult time, she added.
