Expenditure Observer reviews Preparations for General Elections in Chandigarh
The Voice of Chandigarh: A meeting under the chairmanship of Koushlendra Tewari, IRS Expenditure Observer laying the groundwork for fair and transparent elections for the Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency was convened at the U.T. Guest House, Sector 6, Chandigarh,for the upcoming General Elections to the Lok Sabha-2024.
The meeting was attended by all Assistant Returning Officers and Nodal Officers from various key departments including the Income Tax Department, Central GST, State GST & Excise, Forest, Media, Bank, and Police Department .
During the deliberations, valuable feedback was solicited and shared to fortify strategies aimed at curbing malpractices related to election expenditure. Each officer delineated their roles and responsibilities, underscoring their commitment to ensuring fair and transparent elections.
In particular, the Expenditure Observer directed the Lead District Bank Manager of banks for maintaining heightened vigilance over suspicious accounts and transactions throughout the campaign period by the banks.
Similarly, the Nodal Officers of State Excise and Police were tasked with closely monitoring the sale and distribution of liquor within the Chandigarh Constituency, ensuring adherence to electoral guidelines.
Moreover, special emphasis was placed on media oversight, with the Nodal Officer tasked with promptly flagging any advertisements or advertorials in print media, social media platforms, and news channels to the Expenditure Observer’s attention.
