Promoting Road Safety: Chandigarh Traffic Police’s Comprehensive Awareness Session

Road Safety Education Cell of Chandigarh Traffic Police conducted a Road Safety Awareness Session for the public who have come to appear before the Lok Adalat for disposing of the traffic violations challans at District Court sector 43, Chandigarh. Special emphasis was given for saving their hard earned money instead of wasting the same by committing traffic violations, which they can refrain by following and obeying traffic rules and regulations.
During the session, persons who violated the traffic rules and came there to pay their challans were made aware about the traffic rules and regulations contained in Motor Vehicle Driving Regulation 2017, motor vehicle (amendment) Act (2019), Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) 1989. Besides of this Special emphasis was given on the impact and importance of use of Safety Gadgets i.e. wearing of safety headgear “ HELMET” by two- wheeler riders and Pillion riders above the age of 04 years, wearing of seat belts by the Driver & front and rear co-passengers in Motor Vehicle and to enact as a good Samaritan by helping road crash victims at the spot and by taking the victim to the hospital for undergoing treatment in “Golden Hour”to save precious human life without any fear of law. During the awareness session. Literature regarding Road Safety and Road Signs were distributed among the people present there.
Furthermore during this session, they were made aware about the importance and impact of various road safety issues:
- Importance and Impact of wearing of safety Headgear “HELMET” of Good quality of ISI Mark and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) quality by two wheeler driver and pillion rider above the age of 04 years as it protect the Head from Head Injuries in road crashes and save precious humane life.
- Importance of pedestrian Zebra crossing and how to cross the road safely only from zebra crossing marking.
- Importance and Impact of rear view Mirror before Lane Changing, turning Right and Left to avoid Collision and for one’s own safety and safety of other road users.
- “Red Signal On, Engine Off” to save Environment from vehicular pollution and to save fuel.
- Impact and usage of Mobile phone by Motor Vehicle driver, Cyclist and Pedestrian which causes distraction and result into road crashes or any other untoward incidents.
- Importanceand Impact of wearing seatbelt by LMV user i.e driver, front co- passenger and rear seat passengers which protects the person wearing Seat Belt from severe bodily injuries.
- Importance of Road Signages & Road Markings and Traffic light signals.
- Impact of Drunken driving.
- Unnecessary honking and its effect, specially near the Educational institutes and Hospitals.
- Residents were advised to use the cycle track while cycling for their own safety and 50 reflective tapes pasted on cycles for more visibility during night for other commuters.
- Importance and Impact of Lane Driving causes “Lane Driving is Sane Driving” and Lane Driving avoid traffic congestion and stream line of traffic flow.
- Give way to Emergency Vehicle i.e. Ambulance, fire brigade and Police (PCR) Vehicles.
Chandigarh Traffic Police appeals to all the citizens to follow and obey traffic rules & regulations for their own safety and the safety of other road users for making the roads more safer and to reduce road crash fatalities on the roads.
