New Advocates Enrolled at Law Bhawan, Chandigarh; Justice Harkesh Manuja Shares Key Insights on Legal Profession

The Auditorium of Law Bhawan in Chandigarh witnessed a significant event as over 285 newly enrolled advocates were officially inducted into the legal profession. Hon’ble Mr. Justice Harkesh Manuja, Judge of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and administered the oath of office to the new entrants, distributing Enrolment certificates and wishing them success in their legal careers.

In his address, Justice Manuja congratulated the new advocates and their families, urging them to continue learning and growing throughout their careers. He emphasized that education in the legal field is a lifelong process and encouraged the new advocates to cultivate a habit of daily reading while enhancing their technology skills. Justice Manuja also stressed the importance of being an attentive listener, which he described as a vital trait for success in the legal profession.

The Chief Guest also praised the increasing representation of women in the legal field, highlighting their remarkable achievements in competitive judicial exams, where nearly 60-70% of successful candidates are women. He pointed out the significant inspiration drawn from the 13 women judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, noting that this was the highest number of female judges in any High Court across the country.

Dr. Vijender Singh Ahlawat, Chairman of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana (BCPH), also addressed the gathering, providing an update on the latest developments in legal regulation in India and expressing gratitude to Justice Manuja for his presence at the event. Sh. Karamjeet Singh, Honorary Secretary of BCPH, spoke on the significance of maintaining ethical standards in legal practice.

The ceremony was further honored by the presence of other distinguished guests, including Suvir Sidhu, Member of the Bar Council of India, Lekh Raj Sharma, Chairman of the Privilege Committee, and Raj Kumar Chauhaan, Secretary of the Monitoring Committee. Many advocates, as well as the parents and guardians of the newly enrolled lawyers, were present at the occasion.

The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, which was established under the Advocates Act of 1961, currently boasts approximately 150,000 advocates on its roll, contributing significantly to the legal profession in the region.

This event marked a significant milestone for the newly enrolled advocates, who now begin their journey in the legal world, guided by the values of continuous learning, ethical practice, and commitment to justice.
