The Voice of Chandigarh
Iceland, known as the land of ice and fire, captivates with its unique landscapes, wild nature, and fascinating history. LOT Polish Airlines will operate flights four days a week during the summer season, with service reduced to three times per week in the winter. The LO499 flights to Iceland will last 4 hours and 20 minutes, while the return flight LO500 will take 4 hours. During the winter season, the flights will be 15 and 5 minutes longer, respectively.
Iceland is a destination that fascinates with its diverse landscapes. In this land of contrasts, rivers cut through rocky deserts, while molten lava erupts from ice, solidifying into extraordinary formations. Here, the elements take centre stage, their power dramatically reflected in the surrounding natural wonders, including the aurora borealis – an iconic symbol of this remarkable region.
Iceland is a truly unique destination that will undoubtedly enhance the LOT Polish Airlines network. The island reveals its stunning beauty year-round, offering something special in both summer and winter. It’s one of the few places on Earth where you can experience geysers, active volcanoes, glaciers, hot springs, and waterfalls all on the same island. The new route will also provide great convenience for the Polish community in Iceland, which is currently the largest national minority there. We wish all our passengers smooth journeys and unforgettable views of the aurora borealis

Magic Encased in Nature
One of the must-see attractions when exploring Iceland is Reynisfjara – the country’s most stunning black sand beach, attracting visitors from all over the world. From its shore, you can gaze upon the striking rock formations known as Reynisdrangar. According to legend, these were once trolls attempting to pull ships from the ocean to the shore. However, they failed to return before sunrise, and the sun’s rays turned them into towering stone statues.
The local flora is a sight to behold along the “Golden Circle” – a scenic route that takes you to three of Iceland’s most famous natural attractions: the Geysir geothermal area, the Gullfoss waterfall, and Thingvellir National Park. This route offers a fascinating mix of active geysers, a waterfall plunging 32 metres in two tiers, and a dramatic landscape set in a rift valley between North America’s and Eurasia’s tectonic plates. A longer walk in the area also takes you to the stunning Kerid crater lake. At 3,000 years old, the lake is relatively young compared to the surrounding craters, giving its slopes a striking red hue. This otherworldly view is shaped by iron deposits, which are considered fresh from a geological perspective.
Suggestions for Active People
Iceland is sure to satisfy those seeking an adrenaline rush. Landmannalaugar, known for its colourful mountains, is a fantastic destination for hiking enthusiasts. The mountains shimmer in hues of red, pink, green, and yellow, creating a striking landscape. Another must-see is Myvatn, a lake formed by volcanic activity, and surrounded by “green” rocks that conceal many dark caves. The most intriguing of these is the Grjotagja lava cave, filled with hot water – a true testament to Iceland’s unique climate. Finally, don’t miss the Ófærufoss waterfall, located in a canyon 600 metres wide and 200 metres long. This eruptive fissure, with its stark beauty and untouched landscape, perfectly showcases the immense power of Iceland’s natural forces.
Look at the Sky
When visiting Iceland, don’t miss the opportunity to witness the aurora borealis, a true symbol of the country. This stunning natural phenomenon occurs when solar particles enter the Earth’s magnetic field and ionise high in the atmosphere. The sky comes alive with a dazzling display of green, purple, red, pink, orange, and blue – a spectacle that is truly unforgettable.
