Who’s Next? Intense Speculation Over Chandigarh BJP President as Several Leaders Step Forward

The Voice of Chandigarh : There is considerable discussion in Chandigarh about a possible change in the city’s BJP president. Several names are emerging as contenders for this position. Among them, prominent names include Pradeep Sharma, Satinder Singh, Ravikant Sharma, Devesh Modgil, Harish Garg, and Kailash Jain.

According to reliable sources, BJP leader Sanjay Tandon is reportedly lobbying for Ravikant Sharma, while Satypal Jain is backing Devesh Modgil. Pradeep Sharma, who successfully organized several events in the city throughout January to mark the foundation day of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, has the support of the RSS. Firebrand leader and outspoken Hindu nationalist Satinder Singh is also gaining support from both the RSS and Sanjay Tandon.

Former president Arun Sood is also lobbying for the position, leveraging his strong grassroots connections and popularity. If consensus is not reached, Sanjay Tandon might push for Harish Garg, while Satypal Jain could back Kailash Jain.

Party sources suggest that this time, Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu will use his veto power for the final decision, owing to his strong influence within the party. His close ties with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah were evident during their visits to the city and in the list of names for the Administrator’s Advisory Committee. Due to the internal alliance between Sandhu, Arun Sood, and Satypal Jain, Tejinder Sarna’s chances may rise.

Current president Jitender Malhotra is still in the race. Although his numbers were reduced following the party’s losses in the mayoral and Lok Sabha elections, his efforts during the membership drive, which saw a record number of new members joining, have improved his standing within the party.

Other names, such as Dr. Dheerendra Tayal and Shakti Prakash Devshali, were also being discussed, but Dr. Tayal has been appointed as the state election officer for the membership drive, while Devshali’s prospects were dashed when he was made a member of the Chandigarh Housing Board’s governing body.

At present, no female leader’s name is being discussed for the position. In the history of Chandigarh BJP, only Kamla Sharma has been elected as the female president.

Another young leader’s name is also being mentioned in the discussions, who has worked well in coordination with all the major leaders of the city. There seems to be no objection to his name within the party.

It remains to be seen who ultimately emerges as the new BJP president in the city, as these discussions unfold in the coming days.
