Reserve Bank Ombudsman Organizes Financial Awareness Program for Pensioners and Senior Citizens

The Voice of Chandigarh : The Reserve Bank Ombudsman Office, Chandigarh, conducted a financial awareness program to educate pensioners and senior citizens about safe digital transactions and fraud prevention. The event aimed to enhance awareness of the Reserve Bank Integrated Ombudsman Scheme and protect participants from financial fraud in digital banking.

The program was addressed by Rajiv Dwivedi, Reserve Bank Ombudsman, and Chaman Lal Shinhamar, Regional General Manager of Punjab & Sind Bank. They highlighted customers’ rights, responsibilities, and key measures to prevent cyber fraud. Participants were advised not to share OTPs, account/card details, PINs, or internet banking passwords to safeguard themselves from fraudsters who use deception and fear tactics.

A special focus was given to the ‘Sanchar Saathi’ portal (https://www.sancharsaarthi.gov.in), launched by the Government of India, which allows users to report suspicious calls and phishing links. The speakers urged participants to use only official apps, websites, and customer service numbers for financial transactions.

Citizens were also cautioned against fraudulent messages related to KYC updates, SIM blocking, credit card reward points, investment offers, and fake job postings on Telegram. Additionally, they were advised to verify any messages regarding fund transfers from foreign relatives before taking any action.

The Ombudsman informed participants that complaints regarding banking and non-banking financial services can be registered under the Reserve Bank Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, 2021, via https://www.cms.rbi.org.in or by mailing the Chief General Manager, Central Receipt & Processing Center, Reserve Bank of India, Chandigarh – 160017.

This initiative reflects the RBI’s commitment to financial literacy and fraud prevention, ensuring that senior citizens and pensioners can conduct secure digital transactions without falling prey to cyber fraud.
