
National Lok Adalat Successfully Conducted at District Court Complex, Chandigarh

Under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority and the able guidance of the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice-cum-Patron-in-Chief, State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh, and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sureshwar Thakur, Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh, the National Lok Adalat was successfully organized on 08.03.2025 at the District Court Complex, Sector-43, Chandigarh, by the State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh, and the District Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh.

Thirteen benches, headed by serving Judicial Officers, were constituted in the District Courts, Sector-43, Chandigarh. Various cases, including Criminal Compoundable cases, cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act (N.I. Act), Bank Recovery cases, Motor Accident Claim Tribunal (MACT) cases, Matrimonial Disputes, Labour Disputes, Arbitration matters, other Civil Cases, Municipal Matters, and Traffic Challans, were taken up and resolved with the consent of the parties.

Significant Number of Cases Disposed
During the National Lok Adalat, a total of 2,182 cases were disposed of by the benches of serving Judicial Officers at the New District Courts Complex, Sector-43, Chandigarh. The breakdown of resolved cases is as follows:
- 4 Criminal Compoundable cases
- 1,733 cases under Section 138 of the N.I. Act, involving an amount of Rs. 1,44,40,450/-
- 47 Motor Accident Claim cases, involving an amount of Rs. 7,29,43,000/-
- 39 Matrimonial/Family Disputes
- 100 Civil Suits and Rent Cases, involving an amount of Rs. 38,29,487/-
- 113 Execution cases, involving an amount of Rs. 38,24,938/-
- 8 Civil Miscellaneous cases
- 14 Criminal Miscellaneous cases, involving an amount of Rs. 5,000/-
- 3 Arbitration cases
- 1 Civil/Rent Appeal
- 35 cases under Section 125 Cr.P.C.
- 16 cases under the Domestic Violence (D.V.) Act
- 16 Untrace cases
- 13 Criminal Appeals
- 40 cases under the ROC/Shop Act, involving an amount of Rs. 10,800/-
- 9,596 Traffic Challans were also disposed of, with a fine of Rs. 47,82,300/- imposed.
Additional Cases Resolved
Apart from the above, the following cases were resolved:
- 169 pre-litigative cases, involving an amount of Rs. 14,18,182/-, disposed of by the Permanent Lok Adalat (PUS)
- 7 Labour Dispute cases, involving an amount of Rs. 6,90,338/-, disposed of by the Labour Court
- 42 cases disposed of by the State & District Consumer Commissions, Chandigarh
- 233 cases disposed of by the Debt Recovery Tribunal-III (DRT-III), Chandigarh
