Deputy Commissioner Reviews Preparedness for Major Demolition Drive at Adarsh Colony, Sector 53–54, Chandigarh

A meeting was convened today under the chairmanship of Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, to review the preparedness for the upcoming demolition drive scheduled for 19th June 2025 at Adarsh Colony, Sector 53–54 Chandigarh. The drive is aimed at reclaiming approximately 12 acres of government land currently under unauthorized occupation.

​The meeting was attended by key officials including the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), UT Chandigarh, senior officers from the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, representatives from the Engineering Department and the Health Department.

​During the deliberations, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for a coordinated, lawful, and efficient approach to ensure the smooth conduct of the demolition operation, without disruption to public order.

The SSP, UT Chandigarh assured full police deployment for law and order management, along with adequate barricading and security arrangements at the site. It was apprised that around 1000 police personnel will be present to maintain law and order.

​The Engineering Department has already mobilized the required machinery and manpower, including JCBs, dumpers, and other demolition equipment.

​The representative of Health Department apprised that six ambulances along with doctors and paramedical staff will be deputed on-site to provide emergency medical support, if required, during the operation. In addition, teams will be deployed for on-site sanitation management and to address any public health contingencies arising during the activity.

​All departments have been directed to maintain seamless inter-departmental coordination and special care will be taken to ensure that essential services remain unaffected and that safety protocols are rigorously followed throughout the operation.

​The Deputy Commissioner reiterated the Administration’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, ensuring transparent governance, and fostering sustainable urban growth.

This demolition drive forms part of the Chandigarh Administration’s larger initiative to remove encroachments, enforce planned urban development, and reclaim valuable public land. The recovered 12 acres of land is proposed to be utilized for public utility infrastructure in alignment with the Chandigarh Master Plan.
