Over 17,000 Cases Resolved in Chandigarh’s National Lok Adalat: A Triumph of Speedy Justice

Under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority and able guidance of the Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sheel Nagu, the Chief Justice-cum-Patron-in-Chief, State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal, Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh, the National Lok Adalat was organized today i.e. 12.07.2025 in District Court Complex, Sector-43, Chandigarh by State Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh and District Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh.

Thirteen benches headed by the serving Judicial Officers were constituted in the District Courts, Sector-43, Chandigarh. Criminal Compoundable cases, cases under Section 138 of N.I.Act, Bank Recovery cases, MACT Cases, Matrimonial Disputes, Labour Disputes, Arbitration matters, other Civil Cases, Municipal Matters and Traffic Challans were taken up and disposed off with the consent of the parties.

In this National Lok Adalat total 17,511 were disposed of by the benches of serving Judicial Officers constituted in New District Courts Complex, Sector 43, Chandigarh which include 14684 traffic challans involving amount of Rs.1,82,07,900/-, 7 Criminal Compoundable cases involving amount of Rs. 8,88,016/-, 2231 cases under Section 138 of N.I. Act involving amount of Rs2,58,29,300/-, 42 Motor Accident Claim cases involving amount of Rs.54,29,500/-, 121 Matrimonial/Family Disputes, 103 Civil Suits and Rent Cases involving amount of Rs.3,63,720/-, 11 Executions involving amount of Rs.80,80,698/-, 46 Civil Misc., 38 Criminal Misc involving amount of Rs.51,04,517/-, 11 Arbitration cases, 02 Civil/Rent Appeal, 26 cases of 125 Cr.P.C., 30 cases of D.V. Act, 65 Untrace cases, 10 Criminal Appeals involving amount of Rs.2,06,51,039/- and 68 cases of ROC/Shop Act involving amount of Rs.3,38,300/- were disposed of.

In addition to above, 5677 pre-litigative cases involving amount of Rs.6,64,373/- were disposed of by the Permanent Lok Adalat (PUS), 07 Labour Dispute Cases involving amount of Rs.40,000/- were disposed of by the Labour Court, 78 were disposed of by State & District Consumer Commissions, Chandigarh involving amount of Rs.5,05,21,860/-, 286 cases were disposed of by DRT-I, Chandigarh involving amount of Rs.1,39,54,39,658/-, 150 cases were disposed of by DRT-III, Chandigarh involving amount of Rs.1,05,25,00,000/- and total 343 mutations have been disposed of by Tehsildar (Revenue), U.T., Chandigarh.

In a matrimonial dispute husband-wife came before the Ld. Court of Sh. Puneet Mohan Sharma, Additional District & Sessions Judg, U.T., Chandigarh who performed marriage on 18.11.2012 at Chandigarh. Due to some matrimonail issues between the parties, they started to live seprately since 26.09.2021. Thereafter, husband filed divorce petition in the court on 09.08.2021. Said matter was taken up by Ld. Court in National Lok Adalat and with the intervenion of the Court as well as H.S.Grewal, Ld. District & Sessions Judge, Chandigarh, dispute between the parties was amicably settled and both parties were united again. Parties agreed to withdraw all the cases pending in the different courts after amicable settlement.

H.S.Grewal, District & Sessions Judge and Sunil Kumar, Secretary, District Legal Service Authority, Chandigarh thanked for making this Lok Adalat a success and further appealed to resolve their disputes through the Lok Adalats as it provides quick and economical justice.
