Nepal Eases Visa and Exit Formalities for Foreign Nationals Marooned Amid Curfew

Authorities permit departure without ancillary fees; emergency documents to substitute lost passports

The Voice of Chandigarh

Extending a measure of reprieve to international visitors inadvertently ensnared in Nepal due to stringent curfew directives, the Government has relaxed visa protocols and exit procedures.

Foreigners whose visas remained valid until 8 September 2025 may now regularise their stay and secure exit authorisations without incurring supplementary charges. This concession shall be facilitated both at immigration outposts and principal embarkation points, including Tribhuvan International Airport.

Further, travellers who have been deprived of their passports amid recent disturbances will not be left in limbo. Their visas may be transferred onto emergency passports or provisional travel documents issued by their respective diplomatic missions, thereby enabling an orderly repatriation.

The decree emerges against a backdrop of diurnal prohibitory orders and nocturnal curfews in the Kathmandu Valley, circumstances that had rendered the plight of stranded expatriates increasingly precarious.
