Hon’ble Justice Surya Kant Felicitated at Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar; To Assume Office as Chief Justice of India on November 24

Hon’ble Justice Surya Kant, the Chief Justice of India (Designate), visited the Punjab and Haryana High Court bar, where he was felicitated by the Bar Association. Hon’ble Justice Surya Kant made a special effort to come to the Bar Association on the request of Bar Association members to meet them before he assumes office as Chief Justice of India on November 24, 2025.
Justice Suryakant disclosed that he had made special arrangements for members of the bar in the new Supreme Court Auditorium so that they could watch live-streaming of the oath and meet him in person in the Supreme Court once he returns from the President’s house after his oath.
Sartej Singh Narula President Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association, disclosed that Suryakant had even made arrangements for the entry of vehicles in the Supreme Court and had even made arrangements for breakfast for all visiting members of the bar. He further requested the members of the Bar to give their names and vehicle numbers for visiting the Supreme Court, which would be considered a first-come first-served basis in view of the space constraint in the Supreme Court, Auditorium.
The President Bar Association announced that a big screen would be put up in the main bar hall at the Punjab and Haryana High Court for members of the Bar to have a first-hand view of the live streaming of Justice Suryakant’s ceremony as Chief Justice of India
It is the first time in the history of Punjab and Haryana High Court that achieved the Justice of India has been appointed. Designate has personally visited the bar Association to invite its members as well as judges.
Justice Suryakant joined the Punjab High and Haryana High Court bar Association as a member/advocate in the year 1985 to be appointed as the youngest advocate general for the state of Haryana at the age of 38. He was thereafter elevated as a Judge Punjab and Haryana High Court before he turned 42 in the year 2004 later, Justice Kant was appointed as Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh High Court, and then elevated to the Supreme Court in the year 2019.
