The Voice of Chandigarh:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Grand International Exposition of Sacred Piprahwa Relics, titled “The Light & the Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One”, at the Rai Pithora Cultural Complex, New Delhi. Calling the relics an inseparable part of India’s civilisation, the Prime Minister said they are not merely artefacts but a living spiritual heritage of the nation.
Highlighting the return of the Piprahwa relics after nearly 125 years, Modi said their repatriation reflects India’s commitment to protecting its cultural legacy. He emphasised that Bhagwan Buddha’s teachings belong to all humanity and unite people across nations, cultures, and faiths.

The Prime Minister underlined India’s global efforts in preserving and promoting Buddhist heritage, both within the country and abroad, and reiterated that India is not only the custodian of Buddha’s relics but also a living carrier of his timeless tradition. He also noted that Pali, the original language of Buddha’s teachings, has been accorded classical language status to help spread the Dhamma to wider audiences.
Organised thematically, the exhibition brings together repatriated Piprahwa relics along with artefacts from national museums, using immersive audio-visual displays to showcase the life, teachings, and global legacy of Bhagwan Buddha.
