Cold Wave & Dense Fog Prompt Chandigarh Administration to Revise School Timings Till January 10

The Voice of Chandigarh:

In view of the prevailing cold spell and the forecast of dense fog across the region, the Chandigarh Administration has revised the school timings of all Government, Government-Aided and Recognised Private Schools in the Union Territory till January 10, 2026, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.

As per the order, physical classes will remain suspended for students up to Class 8 and for non-board classes of Class 9 and Class 11. However, schools have been permitted to conduct online classes from 9.00 a.m. onwards, with flexibility to adjust staff duty hours accordingly.

For board classes (Class 10 and Class 12), schools may function in physical mode but not before 9.30 a.m., and classes must conclude by 3.30 p.m. The revised schedule aims to prevent any disruption to ongoing or upcoming pre-board examinations, while allowing schools to manage staff timings as per requirement.

Additionally, Principals and Heads of institutions running double shifts have been authorised to call their evening-shift staff during the morning hours, if necessary.

The decision comes amid persistent cold conditions and reduced visibility due to fog, with authorities urging schools to strictly adhere to the revised timings in the interest of student welfare.
