Public Safety Alert!; Phase 11 Mohali: A Construction Site Left Open for Accidents to Happen

The Voice of Chandigarh | Pari Jain

The road widening project at Phase 11 Mohall market has been a prolonged nightmare for everyone who lives, works, or simply passes through the area. Back in January 2025, traders had already raised an alarm about how the construction delays were eating into their businesses, and yet here we are in May 2026 with the ground looking no better. The photographs taken today paint a picture that would never find its way into any press release, with large pits dug right in the middle of an otherwise normal road, with rubble littered everywhere without any barriers for safety. Loose concrete slabs, broken asphalt pieces, and heaps of mud littering the vicinity alongside live traffic, there could be hardly a more dangerous scenario in a place meant for travel.

There is absolutely no way for anyone driving past there, to gauge how far along the hazardous road stretches, especially during the dark. Most infuriating of all is the fact that power poles are set up in the midst of the debris with live electricity lines running above them, along with garbage accumulating around them, adding to the danger. Traders from Phase 11 had been assured months back that the problem would soon be sorted out when the complaints were escalated to the authorities, but the present reality makes one think otherwise. Every single day that passes without action means another day that someone on a two wheeler or on foot is taking a genuine risk just to get from one point to another. The authorities responsible for this project owe the people of Phase 11 not just an explanation but an emergency plan, because what is sitting on that road right now is not a construction site, it is a public safety emergency.
