Mayor Saurabh Joshi chaired a high-power meeting with MC Commissioner Amit Kumar, Joint Commissioners, Chief Engineer and senior officers of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh to review and discuss several burning civic issues concerning the city and functioning of MCC departments.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding strengthening of the city’s sanitation system with special focus on scientific waste management, door-to-door garbage collection, implementation of new MSW Rules-2026 and improving cleanliness standards across all sectors, villages and colonies of Chandigarh. The Mayor directed officers to ensure strict monitoring of sanitation services and timely redressal of public complaints.

Special emphasis was also laid on the welfare of safaikarmacharis and other MCC employees including their job security. The Mayor stressed upon improving working conditions, timely availability of safety equipment, welfare facilities and resolution of pending employee-related issues.

The meeting also reviewed the proposed overhaul of the paid parking system in Chandigarh. Discussions were held regarding implementation of Smart Parking Solutions including electronic ticketing, CCTV surveillance linked with central monitoring, boom barriers, real-time parking management and integration with public convenience mobile applications in major parking sites across the city.

Issues related to street vendors and their rehabilitation and encouragement were also discussed in detail. The Mayor directed the concerned officers to ensure proper vending zones, better facilities and systematic regulation while safeguarding the livelihood of genuine vendors.

The Chief Engineer and engineering wings presented updates regarding ongoing and proposed developmental works related to B&R, Public Health, Horticulture and Electricity departments. The Mayor directed officers to expedite pending development projects and ensure quality execution of works for public convenience.

The meeting further reviewed the draft tender document for operation of paid parking sites, which have been divided into four operational zones covering major commercial and high-footfall areas of the city. It was informed that revised parking rates proposed for prominent locations including Sector-17 parking areas, Sector 35-C market front parking and Sector 22-B Mobile Market parking aim to encourage optimum utilization of the underground multilevel parking facility at Sector-17.

After detailed deliberations, the Mayor and Commissioner directed the officers to incorporate all approved provisions and public-friendly measures in the final policy framework and ensure transparent, efficient and technology-driven civic administration across Chandigarh.
