Chandigarh Administration Achieves Historic Milestone with Successful Auction of All 97 Liquor Vends; Receives Record Bids Worth ₹563.78 Crore

The Chandigarh Administration has achieved a landmark milestone by successfully auctioning all 97 retail liquor vends for the Excise Policy Year 2026-27, accomplishing this feat for the first time in the last decade. The auction process witnessed an overwhelming response from bidders and generated bids worth ₹563.78 crore against a reserve price of ₹453.05 crore, resulting in an increase of ₹110.73 crore, or approximately 24.44 percent, over the reserve value. This achievement reflects the strong confidence of stakeholders and the trade in the Chandigarh Administration’s transparent and progressive excise policies.
The successful auction is expected to generate the highest-ever excise revenue for the Union Territory and significantly strengthen Chandigarh’s revenue base. The Excise Department has set an ambitious revenue target of ₹1,000 crore for the Excise Policy Year 2026-27 and is well-positioned to achieve this milestone.
The Department has also recorded a strong start to the new excise year. As on May 31, 2026, excise revenue collections stood at ₹199.78 crore, achieving nearly 20 percent of the annual revenue target within the first two months of the financial year. This performance reflects the effectiveness of policy measures, strengthened enforcement mechanisms and efficient revenue realization efforts.
The auction was conducted in a fair, transparent and competitive manner, ensuring maximum participation and optimal revenue realization. The enhanced revenue generated through the excise regime will contribute significantly to various developmental and public welfare initiatives undertaken by the Administration for the benefit of Chandigarh residents.
This remarkable achievement has been realized under the leadership and guidance of Nishant Yadav, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh, and the supervision of Pradhuman Singh, HCS, Collector Excise. Their vision, commitment to transparency and proactive approach in policy implementation played a pivotal role in achieving this historic milestone for the Chandigarh Administration.
