The mayor’s words and actions have a huge difference: Sandeep Dahiya

The Voice of Chandigarh News

Aam Aadmi Party leader Sandeep Dahiya said that the local councillor of Ward 12, who is now the Mayor of Chandigarh, has been neglecting his ward since the day he was elected.

On 16/06/2026, the Mayor was inviting residents to the launch of the ward-wise deep cleaning campaign at the Community Centre in Sector 15 at 9:30 AM. It is important to mention here that he had washed the feet of sanitation workers who have been working in Sector 15 for the past 4 years and 6 months. The local councillor had never before recognized them or cared about their problems. He is doing all this only for his publicity. If he truly wanted to do good for them, he should raise the issue of their direct recruitment in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. Along with this, their salary structure should be increased and they should also be provided with necessary facilities. The local councillor, who is now the Mayor, could also provide jobs on a compensatory basis to children who lost their parents while working in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. But he has not taken a single step for the benefit of municipal employees. He is only doing false and grand publicity for himself.

Sandeep Dahiya said that it is absolutely clear that the local councillor of Ward 12, who is now the Mayor of Chandigarh, neither knows the ground realities nor has any concern for them. He said at the launch of this project at the Community Centre in Sector 15 that under the ward-wise deep cleaning project, 500 workers have been deployed. All workers would complete the deep cleaning of Sector 15 on 16/06/2026.

Sandeep Dahiya said that it is important to mention that the ground realities are completely different. The roads are still broken, garbage piles are still present, drainage holes are still clogged, fields still have wild Congress grass, back lanes are still not cleaned, parks are still not clean, etc., in Sector 15. So why is the local councillor of Ward 12, who is now the Mayor of Chandigarh, misleading the residents? According to the residents of Ward 12, this ward-wise deep cleaning project has completely failed, and it will fail in other wards as well.

Sandeep Dahiya said that it would be better to hold a meeting with Resident Welfare Associations and residents before starting this project and take their advice. Also, the Mayor can discuss this project in the monthly meeting of all councillors.

Sandeep Dahiya demanded that the Chandigarh Administrator and the Municipal Corporation Commissioner fulfill the manpower requirements of all wards according to departmental needs. Instead of deploying 500 workers for a single day, it would be better to provide 14 to 15 workers per ward so that they can perform their duties daily instead of only for one day. If these workers work in the morning and afternoon shifts, the wards will remain clean. They can also use this manpower for night shifts to clean the entire city so that when Chandigarh residents wake up early in the morning, they find their surroundings clean.
