Multipurpose Hall at CTET College, Sector 26 Collapses; No Casualties Reported

A portion of the Multipurpose Hall located at CTET College, Sector 26, Chandigarh collapsed. No injury or loss of life has been reported as the building had already been declared unsafe and closed for use.

The Engineering Department, Chandigarh Administration had earlier declared the structure unsafe after physical assessment and had ensured that the building remained unoccupied. As part of the prescribed procedure, the department had sought detailed structural stability/ safety advice from Punjab Engineering College (PEC) after carrying out a detailed structural safety audit of the building.
Meanwhile, the Engineering Department had already initiated the process for demolition of the unsafe structure.
Immediately after the incident, the site was secured and the entire area around the building was cordoned off to prevent public access. Officials of the Engineering Department and other concerned agencies reached the spot and are monitoring the situation.
Chandigarh Administration has reiterated that public safety remains its highest priority and all necessary precautionary measures are being taken to ensure public safety
