Chandigarh Beopar Mandal Opposes Creation of New Vending Zones in City Markets

A delegation of senior functionaries of Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM)  met Mandeep Singh Brar IAS, Home Secretary, UT Chandigarh, and strongly opposed the proposal to create any new vending zones in the already congested markets of the city.

The delegation consisted of  Sanjeev Chadha, President, CBM and Charanjiv Singh, Chairman, CBM.

During the meeting, the representatives highlighted that existing markets are already facing severe congestion. Creating new vending zones would further worsen traffic, sanitation, and business conditions for traders.

They specifically opposed the proposal for 11 new vending zones sent to chief Architect for final approval citing that the Town Vending Committee of the Municipal Corporation had earlier decided against any such new zones.  

Sanjeev Chadha, President CBM and member of the said committee, reiterated this point before the Home Secretary.

Charanjiv Singh, Chairman CBM and former Municipal Councillor, suggested that instead of creating new zones, the administration should have accommodated new vendors only at existing vending sites.

After patiently hearing the delegation, the Home Secretary assured them that the administration would ensure that no new vending zones are created in city markets. He further stated that the matter would be reviewed while keeping in mind the concerns of the trading community.
