A 40-hour Mediation Training Programme for Community Mediators commenced at the Chandigarh Judicial Academy, Sector-43, Chandigarh. The programme has been organised by the State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh under the aegis of NALSA.

A total of 17 Community Mediators are participating in the training programme with the objective of enabling them to resolve local and village-level disputes within their own communities at the grassroots level after completion of the training. The programme was inaugurated by Sh. Sunil Kumar, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh.

Addressing the inaugural session, Sunil Kumar stated that the initiative is highly commendable. He said that through Community Mediation, small disputes and day-to-day issues at the village and community level can be effectively resolved by trained Community Mediators themselves. This will not only promote harmony and brotherhood in society but will also help people avoid unnecessary visits to police stations and courts.

The training is being conducted by Adv. Manjeet Kaur Kotiya and Adv. Seema Pasreecha, Certified Master Trainers empanelled with MCPC, Delhi. Both trainers have extensive experience in mediation and will impart training on mediation techniques, communication skills, ethics and practical role-plays. The 40-hour training will equip the participants to handle disputes effectively and promote a culture of dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution at the community level.

Necessary certificates will be distributed by Arun Kumar Aggarwal, Ld. Member Secretary, State Legal Services Authority, U.T. Chandigarh after completion of the training programme. DLSA Chandigarh remains committed to strengthening the Alternate Dispute Resolution mechanism and empowering communities to resolve their issues amicably at the grassroots level.
