GMSH-16 Successfully Removes Rare Giant Urinary Bladder Stone Weighing Around 500 Grams

A rare giant urinary bladder stone measuring approximately 11 × 8 cm and weighing around 500 grams has been successfully removed at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, Chandigarh, demonstrating the hospital’s capability to manage complex and uncommon urological conditions.
The 45-year-old male patient, who presented with pain, dysuria and recurrent urinary tract infections, underwent detailed evaluation and preoperative planning before the giant calculus was successfully removed by the surgical team at GMSH-16.
The procedure was performed by a team led by Dr. Sarabjit Singh, Dr. Gagan and Dr. Banmeet, with appropriate perioperative support.
Bladder calculi account for approximately 5 per cent of all urinary calculi. A urinary bladder stone measuring more than 4 cm or weighing over 100 grams is generally described as a giant bladder calculus. Stones of this size are extremely uncommon and their management requires specialised urological expertise and comprehensive perioperative care.
