AAP Launches Free Healthcare Scheme of Up to ₹10 Lakh for Every Family in Punjab, Sets National Benchmark

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fulfilled its promise of free healthcare in Punjab with the launch of the Mukh Mantri Sehat Yojna (MMSY) by National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann in Mohali. Under the scheme, every family in the state will receive cashless treatment up to ₹10 lakh in both government and empanelled private hospitals, making even premium private healthcare accessible to the poor.

With this initiative, Punjab has become the first state in India to guarantee free healthcare along with free education, free electricity, and free bus travel for women. Health cards will be issued to 65 lakh families, covering nearly three crore citizens, without any income limit or discrimination.

Arvind Kejriwal described the day as historic, stating that after decades of neglect by previous governments, AAP has delivered on its guarantees. He highlighted the establishment of 1,000 mohalla clinics, recruitment of 1,100 specialist doctors, free medicines, and functional medical infrastructure. He said MMSY ensures that no family will be forced to sell land or assets due to medical expenses.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said the scheme reflects the government’s commitment to welfare inspired by the teachings of Guru Sahiban. He added that 850 government and private hospitals have already been empanelled, with over 2,356 treatment packages included, covering major surgeries, cancer care, cardiac procedures, dialysis, maternity services, and emergencies.

Both leaders asserted that the scheme marks a decisive shift toward people-centric governance, ensuring that no Punjabi will be denied treatment due to lack of money, and setting a new standard for public welfare in the country.
