ADTOI National Tourism Mart – Tripura Tourism Promo Fest 2024

The Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) recently organized the Tripura Tourism Promo Fest-2024 in Agartala, marking a milestone in the efforts to position Tripura as a top-tier tourism destination. With the participation of approximately 80 ADTOI members from 16 states, the event served as a unique platform for tourism professionals, government officials, and industry leaders to explore the state’s vast tourism potential. The three-day fest, held with the support of the Government of Tripura and Tripura Tourism, showcased the state’s vibrant culture, historical richness, and natural beauty while fostering partnerships to expand domestic tourism.

Tripura, often referred to as one of India’s hidden gems, boasts a rich tapestry of attractions, including its tribal culture, historical landmarks, and lush landscapes. The Fest highlighted key destinations such as the iconic Unakoti rock carvings, the serene Nirmahal Palace, and the revered Matabari Temple. These attractions, combined with the state’s peaceful environment and improved connectivity under the Act East Policy, position Tripura as a compelling destination for both domestic and international travelers.

During the event, ADTOI members engaged directly with local stakeholders, including artisans, entrepreneurs, and government representatives, to discuss strategies for boosting Tripura’s tourism industry. Business-to-business discussions provided insights into the state’s offerings and underscored the importance of collaboration in building sustainable tourism infrastructure. The Fest emphasized Tripura’s readiness to host visitors, supported by significant investments in connectivity, amenities, and marketing initiatives.

Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, in his address during the National Travel Mart, outlined the government’s vision for boosting tourism in Tripura. He emphasized the state’s peaceful environment, ranking third lowest in crime rates among India’s 28 states, and its strategic position under the Act East Policy. “Tripura offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural diversity that we are eager to share with the world,” said Dr. Saha. He highlighted key projects, including the ₹37 crore Swadesh Darshan and Prasad initiatives, infrastructure upgrades at Nirmahal, Kasba, and Chabimura, and efforts to showcase the cultural heritage of Tripura’s 19 tribal groups.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury reiterated the government’s focus on sustainable tourism practices. “Our goal is not only to attract visitors but to create lasting benefits for local communities. We are making significant investments in infrastructure, enhancing connectivity, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure tourism’s economic benefits reach every corner of the state. By showcasing our rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and tribal traditions, we envision a prosperous future where tourism plays a pivotal role in Tripura’s economic growth and global recognition,” he said.

Tourism Secretary Uttam Kumar Chakma emphasized efforts to make Tripura more visible and accessible. “We are implementing strategic initiatives to enhance the state’s appeal while preserving its unique assets. By upgrading infrastructure, increasing connectivity, and promoting our diversity, from historical sites to natural wonders, we aim to position Tripura as a must-visit destination,” said Chakma. These initiatives, combined with participation in major travel expos, are designed to integrate Tripura into national and international tourism circuits.

Director of Tourism, Prashant Badal Negi, underscored the importance of a collaborative approach. “Tourism is not just about showcasing attractions but about creating an ecosystem that supports growth. We are working with tour operators, local entrepreneurs, and stakeholders to build infrastructure that ensures a seamless experience for tourists. From guided tours to lesser-known destinations, we are promoting a comprehensive tourism experience that highlights Tripura’s culture, heritage, and biodiversity,” said Negi.
