Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet Warn of Flight Disruptions as Iran Shuts Airspace Amid Rising Tensions
The Voice of Chandigarh | TRavel Trade Reporter
Major Indian airlines Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet on Friday warned passengers of possible flight delays, diversions and cancellations after Iran temporarily shut its airspace amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the region.
Iran’s decision to restrict commercial aviation operations has impacted key international flight corridors, particularly routes connecting India with Europe, North America and parts of Central Asia. As a precaution, airlines are avoiding Iranian airspace, leading to longer flight durations and operational adjustments.
Air India said several long-haul international services could be affected due to rerouting constraints, with some flights cancelled where alternative routes are not operationally viable. IndiGo confirmed disruptions to select international services, especially to Europe, Turkey and CIS countries, while SpiceJet stated that a limited number of overseas flights may face schedule changes.
Airlines emphasized that passenger safety remains the top priority and advised travellers to check flight status before heading to airports. Passengers have also been urged to remain in touch with airlines for real-time updates.
The airspace closure comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions and internal unrest in Iran, prompting several international aviation authorities to caution airlines against overflying the region. The situation remains fluid, and further changes to flight schedules are expected depending on developments.
Authorities in India have also advised Indian nationals in Iran to exercise caution and closely monitor official advisories.
Further updates are awaited as airlines continue to assess the operational impact of the evolving situation.
