Aryans College of Law and District Bar Association Discuss Historic Overhaul of Indian Penal Code

In a landmark seminar jointly organized by Aryans College of Law, Rajpura, near Chandigarh, and the District Bar Association, Chandigarh (UT), the revolutionary “Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)” was brought into focus. The event, held to shed light on India’s new criminal laws, witnessed the presence of prominent legal minds and educators.

Dr. Anshu Kataria, Chairman of Aryans Group of Colleges, presided as the chief guest, while Advocate Parminder Singh, Secretary of the District Bar Association, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Nancy Sharma, Assistant Professor at the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

During her detailed presentation, Dr. Sharma explained how the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023, has replaced India’s age-old Indian Penal Code (IPC) 1860, Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) 1973, and Indian Evidence Act (IEA) 1872. She highlighted the new laws’ potential to reshape India’s criminal justice system significantly.

Dr. Anshu Kataria emphasized the importance of creating awareness about these new legal frameworks. He noted that the Ministry of Law and Justice has been actively engaging stakeholders, including legal professionals and law enforcement, to familiarize them with the new legislation’s key features and implications.

In his concluding remarks, Advocate Parminder Singh applauded Aryans College of Law for organizing the seminar and expressed his appreciation for Dr. Nancy Sharma’s insightful session. He reiterated the importance of continued dialogue on emerging legal issues and encouraged Aryans to host similar events in the future.

The seminar was a step forward in educating the legal fraternity and students about the transformative changes in India’s legal landscape.
