Chairman of National Commission for Safaikarmacharis holds review meeting
The Voice of Chandigarh: M. Venkatesan, Chairman of the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis, reviewed the guidelines/schemes for saraikarmacharis are being followed properly and other issues related to them alongwith implementation of “The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013”.
The Chairman held meeting with senior officers of the Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation, including Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MCC, Vinay Partap Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Kanwardeep Kaur, IPS, SSP, Chandigarh, Shashank Singh, Principal Private Secretary to the chairman,
all Joint Commissioners, Chief Engineer, Superintending Engineers, Medical Officer of Health, Executive Engineers, and Union Leaders of Safai Karamcharis besides individual safaikarmacharis.
The Chairman directed the officers of Chandigarh Administration and Municipal Corporation to check if the guidelines of the government regarding safaikarmacharis and sewermen were being followed properly. He directed the officers to pursue the proposals and cases of all the regular, contractual and outsourced safaikarmacharis pending in different levels.
He also directed the officers to blacklist those contractors who were paying less salary and not paying salaries on time to the safaikarmacharis and sewermen. He said that the contractor must follow “Equal work, Equal pay” government rule and disburse salary in bank accounts of all the safaikarmacharis on time.
During the meeting, the chairman also reviewed “The Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013”, discussed the grievances of Safai Karamcharis, and also covered other issues related to Safai Karamcharis.
Along with the meeting, the chairman also interacted with Safai Karamcharis individually. All outsourcing agencies/contractors responsible for maintaining toilets were also present at the meeting, along with individual Safai Karamcharis, housekeeping staff, and group D workers.
