Chandigarh Administration Commemorates the 9th International Yoga Day at the Majestic Rock Garden

The Chandigarh Administration joyfully celebrated the 9th International Day of Yoga amidst the breathtaking ambience of the Rock Garden in Phase-III, Chandigarh. This year’s theme, ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ embraced the essence of global unity. The esteemed presence of Banwarilal Purohit, Administrator UT Chandigarh, as the chief guest, and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hon’ble Minister of Jal Shakti, Government of India, as the guest of honour, elevated the significance of the event.
Anup Gupta, Mayor, and other eminent officers of the UT Chandigarh Administration actively participated in the Yoga Programme on this momentous occasion. A vibrant assembly of approximately 1000 participants from various walks of life gracefully engaged in a myriad of yoga postures, bringing life to the grand event.
The enthralled audience also had the privilege of witnessing the live stream of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s address from the United States, where he expressed his intent to perform yoga at the UN Headquarters, accompanied by delegates from numerous countries. Additionally, the live stream of the address by the Hon’ble Vice President of India, highlighting the manifold benefits of yoga, further enriched the experience.
The iconic Rock Garden served as a picturesque backdrop as yoga enthusiasts from the Directorate of AYUSH, Department of Tourism, Central Government departments, Govt. College of Yoga Education & Health (Sector 23), and teachers and students of government colleges, joined hands with various organizations and NGOs such as Art of Living, Patanjali, Bhartiya Yog Sansthan, GRIID, Khelshala, Brahma Kumaris, Bihar School of Yoga, Nirankari, Institute for the Blind, Brahmrishi Yoga Training College, Yoga Federation of India, Chandigarh Yoga Association, and Chandigarh Yoga Sabha to perform an array of invigorating yoga asanas.
The Administrator emphasized the significance of yoga, as it holds the key to better health and success. He urged everyone to adopt yoga as a way of life, highlighting that even a small investment of time in daily routines can enhance productivity and result in improved time management and stress reduction.
Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Hon’ble Minister of Jal Shakti, Govt. of India, reiterated the commitment of the Central Government to ensure that the benefits of yoga reach every individual.
In addition to the grand yoga session held at the Rock Garden, the International Yoga Day celebrations extended far and wide across the city of Chandigarh. Over 100 different locations throughout the city played host to yoga sessions, engaging a diverse range of participants. From parks and community centers to schools, people of all ages and backgrounds came together to embrace the holistic practice of yoga. This widespread participation highlighted the collective enthusiasm and commitment of the Chandigarh community towards incorporating yoga into their daily lives. The city truly resonated with the spirit of unity and well-being, making the 9th International Yoga Day a resounding success.
