Chandigarh Election Preparedness Meeting Overview

A meeting was convened by the District Election Officer, Vinay Pratap Singh in the presence of S.S. Gill, General Observer, Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Koushlendra Tiwari, Expenditure Observer, Ms. G. Poonguzhali, IPS, Police Observer UT Chandigarh, regarding the polling day arrangements and election preparedness in Chandigarh in the last 72 hours. Present during the meeting were Ms. Kanwardeep Kaur, SSP Chandigarh, Assistant Returning Officers and officials of Chandigarh Administration and Chandigarh Police.

Regarding Polling Personnel Management, important areas of discussions were third randomization of polling personnel, submission of a certificate immediately after the polling parties have been formed for conduct of election, ensuring Assured Minimum Facilities at all polling stations, ensuring all arrangements for welfare of polling personnel including accommodation and food arrangements at polling stations have been made, medical facilities at polling station/locations, arrangements for movement of polling personnel and other election machineries.

Multiple Civil (Non-Force) measures at Polling locations were discussed like Critical Polling Stations shall at least be covered by one or more non-Force measures including Micro-observer, Video camera, webcasting and CCTV; training to Sector Officers and Booth Level Officers on webcasting and involving them in the supervision for webcasting and live checking of webcasting, two days before the poll, constitution of a team for trouble shooting of webcasting, advance planning for shadow areas/communication infrastructure and alternate arrangements.

During the meeting it was ensured that law and order / security arrangements should be fool proof at District level. The police officials and other officials shall ensure that special efforts be taken to curb misuse of money power, checking of Inter-state borders and placement of Nakas, tracking all of inducement to voters and any malpractices.

Under Section 144, ban on public meetings related to election in last 48 hours shall be ensured, and supporters who are not voters of Chandigarh will have to leave the Chandigarh constituency.

Further it was iterated that in compliance to Election Commission of India guidelines, Mobile Phones will not be allowed inside the Polling Booth. Therefore, the voters are advised not to carry their phones to the polling stations on the polling day.
