Chandigarh Mayor Race: BJP Fields Saurabh Joshi, Victory Appears Within Reach

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its candidates for the Chandigarh mayoral election, fielding Saurabh Joshi for the post of Mayor, Jassman Preet Singh for Senior Deputy Mayor and Suman for Deputy Mayor.

With Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party also naming their candidates and ruling out any alliance, political observers say the current equations favour the BJP. Saurabh Joshi is being seen as a strong contender and a likely frontrunner for the mayor’s post.

The mayoral election will be held on January 29 and, for the first time, voting will take place through a show-of-hands system, replacing the earlier secret ballot process.
