Chandigarh National Lok Adalat Settles Over 4500 Cases in Single Day

Under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority, the State Legal Services Authority alongwith District Legal Services Authority, U.T., Chandigarh organized National Lok Adalat today on 09.03.2024 in the District Courts, Sector 43, Chandigarh. Necessary directions regarding safety of litigants, staff and Judicial officers of the Court keeping in view the public rush had been adhered to.
Twelve benches headed by the serving Judicial Officers were constituted in the District Courts, Sector-43, Chandigarh. Criminal Compoundable cases, cases under Section 138 of N.I.Act, Bank Recovery cases, MACT Cases, Matrimonial Disputes, Labour Disputes, Arbitration matters, other Civil Cases, Municipal Matters and Traffic Challans were taken up and disposed off with the consent of the parties.
In National Lok Adalat total 1880 cases were disposed off by the benches of serving Judicial Officers constituted in New District Courts Complex, Sector 43, Chandigarh which included 1552 cases under Section 138 of N.I. Act involving an amount of Rs.7,38,85,545/-, 76 Motor Accident Claim cases involving an amount of Rs.8,34,10,000/-, 37 Matrimonial/Family Disputes, 73 Civil Suits and Rent Cases involving an amount of Rs.30,84,264/-, 34 Executions involving an amount of Rs.2,09,67,240/-, 08 Criminal Revision, 14 Crl. Misc., 23 Civil Misc. involving amount of Rs.1,70,37,427/-, 09 Arbitration cases, 03 Civil/Rent Appeal, 16 cases of 125 Cr.P.C., 11 cases of D.V. Act, 08 Untrace cases, 08 cases of Registrar of Companies Act/Shop Act involving an amount of Rs.1,29,500/- and 02 Criminal Appeals involving amount of Rs.2,00,000/- were disposed off. 2793 Traffic Challans were also disposed of by imposing a fine of Rs.23,83,000/-.
In addition to above, 2658 cases involving an amount of Rs.3,75,743/- were disposed of by Permanent Lok Adalat (Public Utility Services), 19 pre-litigative cases involving an amount of Rs.16,58,368/- 10 Labour Dispute Cases involving an amount of Rs.12,24,122/- and 62 Consumer Court Cases involved an amount of Rs.5,42,38,124/- were also disposed off.
Today’s National Lok Adalat was conducted under the able guidance of Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Lisa Gill, Executive Chairperson, State Legal Services Authority, UT, Chandigarh. Originating from Gandhian Principles, Lok Adalat has become a major helping hand to courts and has largly succeeded in providing a supplementary forum to litigants for determination and settlement of disputes.
