Chandigarh Police organizes special sessions on “New Major Criminal Laws”

Chandigarh Police organized special sessions on “New Major Criminal Laws” for Investigation Officers of Chandigarh Police at Judicial academy Sector 43 Chandigarh started from 9th to 19th January 2024. The workshop was conducted in 3 batches in which 175 police officers from the rank of HC to Inspector had participated in each batch. Some DSPs have also participated in the workshop, hence, the total 550 police officers Chandigarh Police attended the workshops.
Apart from above, a two days’ course on “New Major Criminal Laws for all GOs of Chandigarh Police was also held at Police Headquarter Sector 9, UT, Chandigarh on 18th and 19 January 2024. The course was inaugurated by Praveer Ranjan IPS, DGP/UT. The course was conducted under supervision of Dr. Sahil Arora, Vice Principal, CDTI, Chandigarh and Sanjay Kumar, Dy.SP. CDTI. At first a video of Parliamentary debate of 30 minutes was over viewed. The validation function for 2 days workshop at Police headquarter was held by Raj kumar Singh IGP UT.
During the lecture the following topics were cover in both the courses:
- Overview of new criminal laws (additions, deletions, modifications and recognition of chapters and sections).
- Information in cognizable cases, zero FIR, eFIR, preliminary enquiry, scene of crime by forensic expert collection of evidence.
- Trial – jurisdiction and power of the court, speedy delivery of the justice, prosecution related reforms, legal proceedings, bail related reforms, summary trials etc.
- Other reforms like procedural reform relating to punishment, victims centric reform, witness protection scheme etc.
- Reforms in offences, reforms in crime against women and children, mob lynching, organized crime, terrorist Act etc.
- Reforms relating to relevancy of facts, primary and secondary evidence.
- Group discussion
Validation functions for all batches of the course on “New Major Criminal Laws” were held at judicial academy sector 43 Chandigarh where. Praveer Ranjan IPS, DGP/UT and Dr. Ajau Kumar, Director, Judicial Academy, Sector-43, Chandigarh presided over the function with presence of officers of CDTI, Judicial academy and Chandigarh Police.
