Chandigarh Pradesh Congress Pays Tributes to Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Calls for Bharat Ratna Recognition

The Chandigarh Pradesh Congress paid heartfelt floral tributes to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, a celebrated economist, visionary statesman, and a true architect of India’s modern economic policies. In a resolution passed during the occasion, the party strongly urged the government to confer upon him the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honor, in recognition of his remarkable contributions as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Finance Minister, and Prime Minister of India.

Speaking on the occasion, H.S. Lucky, President of Chandigarh Congress, highlighted Dr. Singh’s transformative role in shaping India’s economic landscape. He lauded Dr. Singh’s groundbreaking leadership as Finance Minister, under which India embraced economic liberalization, laying the foundation for its emergence as a global economic powerhouse. Lucky also noted Dr. Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister, marked by historic achievements, including the nuclear agreement with key international powers, which significantly bolstered India’s global standing.

H.S. Lucky emphasized, “Dr. Singh’s tenure was a testament to his unwavering commitment to public service, personal integrity, and dedication to the nation’s progress. His government’s implementation of landmark rights-based legislations, such as the Right to Information Act in 2005, transformed governance and empowered citizens. His visionary leadership and economic acumen not only transformed India but also earned him immense respect on the global stage.”

The Congress leaders also fondly recalled Dr. Singh’s long-standing connection with Chandigarh, where he served as a professor at Panjab University and owned a residence in Sector 11-B. They remarked that his exemplary life journey, rooted in humility and dedication, will continue to inspire future generations.

Prominent leaders present during the tribute included Zahid Parvez Khan, Jasbir Bunty, Taruna Mehta, B.M. Khanna, Dilawar Singh, Muhammad Sadiq, Birendra Rai, Victor Sidhu, Gurcharan, Yadvinder Mehta, Manish Lamba, and others.

The Chandigarh Congress reaffirmed its belief that awarding Bharat Ratna to Dr. Manmohan Singh would serve as a fitting tribute to a leader who dedicated his life to the service of the nation and the upliftment of its people.
