City Unites Against Proposed Hike in Collector Rates

Industrialists, Traders, and RWAs Form Joint Forum to Oppose Unjustified Increase

The Voice of Chandigarh News

Representatives from various industrial, trade, and residential associations across Chandigarh convened an urgent meeting in Sector 7 to address the proposed exorbitant hike in collector rates by the administration.

Recognizing the long-term impact of these rates on businesses, property transactions, and overall economic health, the attendees unanimously decided to form a Joint Forum of Industrialists, Traders, and RWAs to collectively advocate for their concerns in the future.

The discussion remained focused on the proposed increase in collector rates, and the following key points emerged:

  • The current collector rates are already significantly high, adversely affecting revenue collection for the administration. A further increase will only exacerbate economic challenges for businesses and residents.
  • If the administration deems a revision necessary, the hike must be minimal and aligned with the market realities in Mohali and Panchkula to avoid unnecessary financial burdens.
  • A grace period of at least four months should be provided before implementing any increase, allowing pending transactions to be completed under existing rates.
  • The administration must seriously consider the numerous petitions submitted by various organizations opposing this hike.

Chander Verma, Coordinator of the Joint Forum, stated:

“The proposed hike is unrealistic and will only discourage business growth in Chandigarh. We urge the administration to engage in meaningful dialogue and consider practical alternatives before making any decisions that could negatively impact the city’s economy.”

The Joint Forum will reconvene in the coming days to determine an appropriate course of action to ensure that the authorities acknowledge the widespread discontent among the city’s industrialists, traders, and residents.

Associations Represented in the Meeting:

  1. Chandigarh Business Council
  2. Chandigarh Beopar Mandal
  3. FOSFEC
  4. CREFED
  5. Property Consultants Association
  6. Property Shareholders Welfare Association
  7. Housing Board Flats Residents Association
  8. Industrial Converted Plot Owners Association, Chandigarh
  9. Industries Association, Chandigarh
  10. Laghu Udyog Bharti, Chandigarh
  11. Furniture Association, Chandigarh
  12. Crockery Association, Chandigarh
  13. Industrial Youth Association
  14. Chandigarh Automobile Association

The collective voice of the city’s business and residential sectors is clear—the proposed collector rate hike must be reconsidered to protect Chandigarh’s economic future.
