Cong files petition to null & void BJP Deputy Mayor election
The Voice of Chandigarh News:
Rajiv Kumar Moudgil the District President of Chandigarh Congress has filed a petition before Deputy Commissioner Chandigarh, the prescribed authority of UT Chandigarh to declare the election from ward no. 11 as null and void in view of a false affidavit filed by Anup Gupta, the BJP Counsellor and Senior Deputy Mayor of the city, before the Returning Officer in December 2021.
Rajiv Moudgil was a Congress candidate from ward no. 11 in the recently held Municipal Corporation election.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhawan here on Saturday, Subhash Chawla, President of Chandigarh Congress stated that not only the elections from ward no. 11 be countermanded but Anup Gupta should be prosecuted for filing false affidavit before the State Election Commission.
Chawla further stated that Anup Gupta enrolled himself as an advocate in year 2007 under Punjab and Haryana Bar Council. He filed an affidavit before the council under rule 47 of Bar Council Rules to the effect that after being enrolled as an advocate, he would not personally engage in any business activity. Now on 03 December 2021, he swore an affidavit before the returning officer stating on oath that he is a businessman by occupation and declared his income from business.
It is crystal clear from the two affidavits the the Senior Deputy Mayor has falsely deposed before the Election Authorities, therefore strict action should be taken by the concerned authorities under the law of the land, Chawla added.
Chawla also stated that filing a false affidavit is an offence under the Indian Penal Code and demanded that Gupta should be booked for doing so.
