Delhi court extended the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody of AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh by 3 days till October 13, 2023
The Voice of Chandigarh :
A Delhi court on October 10, 2023, extended the Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody of AAP Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh by 3 days till October 13, 2023, in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.
The ED had sought a 7-day extension of Singh’s remand, arguing that he was not cooperating with the investigation. The agency also claimed that Singh was trying to influence witnesses and destroy evidence.
However, Singh’s lawyer opposed the ED’s plea, arguing that his client was being harassed by the agency. He also claimed that Singh was innocent and had nothing to hide.
The court, after hearing both sides, extended Singh’s remand by 3 days. The court directed the ED to provide Singh with all necessary medical facilities and to allow him to meet his lawyers.
The arrest of Sanjay Singh has come at a time when the AAP is gearing up for the upcoming assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. The party has alleged that the BJP is trying to derail its campaign by targeting its leaders.
It is important to note that Sanjay Singh is innocent until proven guilty. The ED is still investigating the case and no charges have been filed against him yet.
