Democracy was murdered: CJI DY Chandrachud on Chandigarh mayor election
The Voice of Chandigarh :
Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud has made strong remarks regarding the recent Chandigarh mayoral election.
CJI Chandrachud has expressed serious concerns about the conduct of the election, particularly regarding allegations of ballot tampering. He reportedly said, “This is murder of democracy. This man should be prosecuted,” after viewing a video allegedly showing the presiding officer marking rejected marks on ballot papers.
An Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the election results. CJI Chandrachud has acknowledged the petition and stated that the court will consider its urgent listing.
The CJI’s comments and the ongoing legal challenge raise questions about the legitimacy of the election results and could potentially lead to further developments, including the invalidation of the results and the holding of fresh elections.
