DGCA Fines IndiGo Rs. 40 Lakh for Using Unapproved Simulators in Pilot Training
New Delhi, October 12 — The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of ₹40 lakh on IndiGo Airlines after finding that the airline used flight simulators for pilot training which were not approved for operations at “critical” airports such as Calicut, Leh, and Kathmandu.
According to the DGCA order, separate penalties of ₹20 lakh each have been imposed on IndiGo’s Director of Training and Director of Flight Operations for violations of Civil Aviation Requirements (CAR) and provisions under the Aircraft Rules, 1937.
The regulator’s investigation revealed that around 1,700 pilots were trained on simulators that did not meet the required certification standards for such airports.
DGCA has directed the airline to deposit the fine within 30 days. IndiGo retains the right to appeal the decision as per regulatory procedure.
