Extension Block at GMSSS 39 gets a go with Bhumi Pujan by Hon’ble Governor

The Department of School Education has a reason to rejoice as the new academic session marked the beginning of addition in the infrastructure in GMSSS 39.

Banwarilal Purohit, Governor Punjab and Administrator UT, Chandigarh performed the bhumi poojan for the construction of the extension block of the school, in the August presence of Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, Dr. Dharam Pal, Adviser to the Administrator.

The construction of the extension block is another endeavour of the Department towards creating an experiential learning environment for the students. The school is currently catering to a little over 1900 students in two shifts.

Along with giving ease of operation, the construction of this block will provide special rooms to ensure activity-based learning to enhance creative and critical thinking among our students, in accordance with the provisions of NEP.  This new triple floored science building with state-of-art labs will keep the students abreast with the latest research and developments by giving them hands on experience in anyears’ time. The infra, developed with a cost of Rs 5.74 Cr will be operational to give invaluable experience to our students.

This is heartening to see how the upgradation of infrastructure has sent a strong message in society about facelift of government schools and making them even better than most of the private schools, resulting in sudden boost in the number of students seeking admission in government schools.On one hand it is the success of efforts of the department in creating a world class infrastructure and on the other hand it is a challenge for the department to accommodate all the students who are seeking admission in government schools. But it is important to mention that department is fully geared up to accommodate these students.

The figure showing the number of Govt schools in Chandigarh stands tall at 112 Govt, and all the schools cater to the qualitative educational needs of approximately more than two and a half lakh students. From this session onwards, the Department is equipping itself to augment the Balvatikas in the Govt schools, which will certainly shape Early Childhood Care and Learning.

Securing digital infrastructure, growing digital skills, and promoting digital safety are key components of realizing technology’s potential in education.

The use of technology is changing the face of education and to keep ahead of times, the Department is acknowledging & encouraging the revolutionary power of technology in its schools by adding 400 state of the art Desktop Computers at a total cost of Rs. 2.04 Crores in 56 Govt. Schools. In the year 2022-23, 120 Laptops were provided to the schools for use of our children, all through CSR activity.

To invoke interest in education among the student by introducing them to real-time e-learning with help of audios and videos, multimedia, contents alongwith helping teachers for teaching through latest technology and to achieve good academic performance of students the Department will be adding 201 more Smart Classrooms at a total cost of Rs. 1.86 Crores making the total tally of smart classrooms to 490.

In compliance with the vision of the Hon’ble PM as announced in the FM budget speech of February 2023, that the school children must have access to have e-digital library content, the Department will be providing 770 tablets for use in the library by the children whereby they will be able to access the Diksha portal, e pathshala, Kishore Manch and Swayam Prabha e-digital portals of the GoI.  It is really elating to mention that that all the 112 schools of UT Chandigarh have now been provided safe internet access through 100% optical fiber. This will ensure that they have uninterrupted and safe access to the internet content and be a part of the IT revolution in the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Purohit reiterated the  glory of our motherland, the ups and downs that it has witnessed and the glorious revival in the present times. With the launch of computers, tablets and smart panels to be installed in Govt schools in the current session, he lauded the efforts of Department of School Education. Purohit ensured that from this session onwards, it would be ‘Education for All’, implying that each and every single child would be given education and not even a single child would be left behind. Emphasizing the significance of Elementary education in the life of a student, Hon’ble Governor spoke on the qualitative standard of education provided in Govt schools of UT Chandigarh and congratulated one and all on the occasion.
