India is all set to host the Hero Asian Champions Trophy hockey tournament for the first time from August 3 to 12 and the winning trophy is being taken to different corners of the country. This trophy is on tour across the country and Chandigarh also gave a grand welcome to this trophy.
Hockey Chandigarh organised a grand reception at a hotel in Sector-17. Chandigarh Administrator and Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit was also present on the occasion. The administrator said that Punjab and Chandigarh have been dominating in hockey, I hope that the Hero Asian Champions Trophy will remain in our country only. I expect a good game from the youth of the country.
He also asked the young hockey players of the country to gear up so that India plays well in it and captures the trophy. Karan Gilhotra, President, Hockey Chandigarh said that it is a proud moment for the people of Chandigarh that Hero Asian Champions Trophy 2023 has reached the city. Nothing could be better for the city than this. Such opportunities are of great importance to the hockey players and give them the ability to compete against the biggest forces for the country.
Hockey Chandigarh Senior Vice President Pushvinderjit Singh and General Secretary Anil Vohra thanked Chandigarh Administrator Banwarilal Purohit for presiding over the function. Vohra said that the players of Chandigarh have always contributed in taking the country’s hockey forward, and Chandigarh’s hockey team has been successful in bringing silver medal for three consecutive years, for which they were also awarded cash prize today. Karan Gilhotra said that this time also many players of the city will represent the country in big tournaments. The President and secretary of Hockey Associations of Punjab and Haryana was also present in the reception.
