The Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology & Applied Nutrition (IHM), Lucknow, in collaboration with the SKÅL International Lucknow Chapter, successfully organised a One-Day National Seminar on “Responsible Tourism: Clean, Sustainable and Inclusive Destinations.” The seminar was conducted under the Swachhata Action Plan, reinforcing the importance of cleanliness, sustainability, and responsible practices in tourism.
The seminar was inaugurated by Mr. Neelendra Prasad Srivastava, Principal, IHM Lucknow, who emphasized the vital role of responsible tourism in preserving destinations, promoting sustainability, and enhancing visitor experiences. He encouraged students and industry stakeholders to adopt cleanliness and sustainability as core professional values.
The academic and industry deliberations were enriched by eminent speakers from the hospitality and tourism sector. Mr. Rahul Nama, General Manager, Novotel Lucknow, and Ms. Shalini Singh, Founder & CEO, Nautical51 Technologies Pvt. Ltd., shared insights into global best practices and evolving concepts of responsible tourism. Mr. Sunil B. Satyawakta, President, SKÅL International Lucknow Chapter, highlighted cleanliness as a critical pillar of tourism sustainability and emphasized industry responsibility towards maintaining destination hygiene and environmental balance.
Faculty experts Ms. Deepabalee Saha and Dr. Prasang Agarwal further discussed the role of tourism stakeholders and examined challenges and opportunities for responsible tourism in India, encouraging collaborative action among government, industry, academia, and local communities.
The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from SKÅL members, tourism professionals, travel agents, faculty, and students, creating a meaningful platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange. The active association of SKÅL International Lucknow Chapter strengthened industry–academia collaboration and reaffirmed a shared commitment to promoting clean, sustainable, and responsible tourism practices.
The event concluded with a renewed pledge to integrate responsible tourism principles into professional practices and to continue collaborative efforts towards building cleaner, greener, and more inclusive tourism destinations.
