India Hosts Global Leaders to Accelerate Malaria Elimination, New Delhi

India convened global experts at the International Malaria Conference 2026 in New Delhi (7–9 March), hosted by ICMR – National Institute of Malaria Research with support from CARAH Women Foundation.
Bringing together nearly 200 scientists, policymakers, and public health leaders, the conference focused on advancing malaria elimination through innovation, research, and partnerships under the theme “Discovery, Development and Delivery: Driving Malaria Elimination and Beyond.”

The conference opened with remarks by Dr. Anup Anvikar, Director NIMR, followed by a keynote by Dr. Philip Welkhoff (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation) on global malaria elimination. India’s progress and priorities were presented by Dr P. J. Bhuyan (National Centre for Vector Borne Disease Control), with a regional perspective from Dr. Suman Rijal (World Health Organization South-East Asia Regional Office). Over three days, global experts from institutions including University of Glasgow, Max Planck Institute, University of Notre Dame, Mahidol University, and University of the Witwatersrand shared cutting-edge research, highlighting strong international collaboration in malaria control.
A special panel on “From Lab to Last Mile: Delivering Malaria Elimination through Gender, Climate and Community Systems” was convened by CARAH Women Foundation. Dr. Roopa, Founder & CMD, highlighted the foundation’s vision to support government efforts through multidisciplinary expertise and global collaboration.
The conference concluded with a strong call for enhanced global collaboration, sustained investment, and community-driven action to achieve a malaria-free future.
