Justice Harpreet Singh Brar Graces Convocation Ceremony of Newly Enrolled Advocates in Punjab and Haryana

Justice Harpreet Singh Brar, Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, presided over the convocation ceremony organized by the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana at Law Bhawan. Justice Brar, as the Chief Guest, administered the oath to 417 newly enrolled advocates and distributed their enrolment certificates.

In his address, Justice Brar inspired the young legal professionals by emphasizing the importance of hard work, patience, knowledge, fairness, and ethical conduct in the legal profession. He urged the new entrants to remain committed to excellence and contribute positively to society through their legal practice.

Dr. Vijender Singh Ahlawat, Chairman of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, welcomed the gathering and expressed his gratitude to Justice Brar. He also advised the newly enrolled advocates to uphold the dignity and integrity of the legal profession throughout their careers.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Karamjeet Singh Chaudhary, Hony Secretary; Raj Kumar Chauhaan, Secretary Monitoring Committee; Gurtej Singh Grewal, Chairman Trustee Committee; and members of the Enrollment Committee, Karanjit Singh and Ajay Chaudhary. The ceremony was also graced by the parents and guardians of the newly enrolled advocates, hailing from various regions of Punjab, Haryana, and U.T. Chandigarh.

Justice Brar’s own inspiring journey to becoming a Judge is noteworthy. Enrolling as an advocate in 2000, he went on to serve as the Additional Advocate General for the state of Punjab from 2009 to 2014. He was elected as a member of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana for three consecutive terms and served as Honorary Secretary twice. Justice Brar was unanimously elected as Chairman of the Bar Council in 2019 and was also the President of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association for two terms. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2021 and elevated to the position of Judge of the High Court in April 2023.

The convocation ceremony marks a significant step for the 417 young advocates as they embark on their legal careers. Since its establishment under the Advocates Act, 1961, the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana now boasts over 152,000 enrolled advocates.
