Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya Administers Oath to 490 New Advocates at Bar Council Convocation

Chandigarh, January 15, 2025:

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tribhuvan Dahiya, Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, graced the convocation ceremony organized by the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana at Law Bhawan as the Chief Guest. During the event, Justice Dahiya administered the oath to 490 newly enrolled advocates and distributed their enrolment certificates, marking the beginning of their professional legal journey.

In his address, Justice Dahiya inspired the young lawyers, urging them to embrace hard work and uphold the principles of legal ethics. He emphasized the importance of in-depth knowledge, patience, fairness toward clients, and unwavering professional integrity. His Lordship encouraged the new entrants to strive for excellence and contribute positively to society.

Dr. Vijender Singh Ahlawat, Chairman of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, extended a warm welcome to the gathering and expressed his gratitude to Justice Dahiya. He advised the young advocates to maintain the dignity and integrity of the legal profession. The event was also attended by Rakesh Gupta, Chairman of the Enrolment Committee, Karanjit Singh, Member of the Enrolment Committee, and C.M. Munjal, Chairman of the Finance Committee, along with other esteemed members of the Bar Council, senior advocates, and the proud parents and guardians of the new lawyers.

Justice Dahiya’s legal career is an inspiring journey. Before his elevation to the Bench, he practiced at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, handling administrative, civil, and criminal law cases. He also served as an Additional Central Government Standing Counsel and frequently assisted the Court as amicus curiae in significant legal matters. His Lordship has a strong commitment to pro bono work and has contributed extensively to legal aid services.

Apart from legal practice, Justice Dahiya was a part-time lecturer at the Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh, from 1997 to 2000. He has authored several articles published in law journals and has also worked as a trained mediator at the Punjab and Haryana High Court Mediation and Conciliation Centre. In recognition of his expertise, he was designated as a Senior Advocate in May 2021 and later appointed as an Additional Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in August 2022, before being elevated to a permanent Judge in September 2023.

The convocation ceremony was a momentous occasion, signifying the beginning of a new chapter for the 490 young lawyers. The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, established under the Advocates Act, 1961, continues to play a crucial role in the legal fraternity, with over 152,500 advocates enrolled under its jurisdiction.
