Malaysia Airlines Commences Inaugural Flights to Amritsar and Trivandrum

Malaysia Airlines celebrated its inaugural flights between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Amritsar (ATQ) and Trivandrum (TRV) with a send-off event held at KLIA Terminal 1 on 8 and 9 November 2023 respectively.  

Flight MH118 bound for ATQ departed from KUL at 6:50pm local time, whereas flight MH116 took off for TRV from KUL at 9:30pm local time where they were both greeted to a water salute upon arrival at the destination airports. Both flights were operated by the airline’s Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft. 

To commemorate the momentous occasion, passengers departing from KUL received special goodies at the departure gate. The send-off event was attended by Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines from Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG); Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, Chief Operating Officer of Malaysia Airlines; Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Airlines (MAG); together with senior officials from MAG and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB). 

Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines from MAG, who was present in KLIA to meet and greet the passengers, said, “Malaysia Airlines places great importance on the Indian market, considering it a cornerstone of our strategic vision. For Amritsar and Trivandrum, we proudly hold the distinction of being the first full-service premium carrier to offer flights to South Asia and the Pacific. The expansion of our routes to India goes beyond mere connectivity, as this effort yields a range of positive outcomes, from driving economic growth, to boosting tourism, nurturing cultural exchange, and facilitating global collaboration.” 

The introduction of two (2) new routes expands Malaysia Airlines’ point-to-point connectivity from Kuala Lumpur – India to eight (8) key hubs, including New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi. Malaysia Airlines remains dedicated to enhancing connectivity and will soon commence operations to Ahmedebad (AMD) in December this year.
